Driver Background Checks and Pre-Screenings
Because regulations vary across states, here’s a look at how Uber screens drivers in California as an example of what’s generally required.
Every individual who wants to drive with Uber in California must complete a rigorous background screening conducted by Checkr, a third-party provider accredited by the National Association of Professional Background Screeners.
This screening goes back seven years and includes:
- Full identity verification (name, DOB, SSN, license number)
- Driver’s license check
- Vehicle registration, insurance, and inspection verification
- National, state, and local criminal record searches
- A review of driving history, including traffic violations
Databases used include the National Sex Offender Public Website, PACER, and others used for terrorist screening. If a potential issue is flagged, Checkr verifies it by checking courthouse records—either digitally or in person—to ensure accuracy.
These steps are in place to identify any past behavior that may disqualify a driver from partnering with Uber. While this is not an exhaustive list, it reflects some of the key criteria evaluated to help ensure safe rides.
Preparing Drivers for Seniors’ Needs
Whenever a ride is booked through Ageless, we notify the driver that they’ll be transporting an older adult. We ask them to be courteous, patient, and ready to help, especially when it comes to giving a little extra time during pickup or drop-off.
If a driver isn’t comfortable with this, we cancel the ride and find a new one right away—usually within seconds.

Communication That Keeps You Connected
If you need to reach your driver, for example, if you’re having trouble getting outside or need more time, just give us a call. We’ll either connect you directly or relay a message on your behalf.
Clear, Custom Directions for Smooth Pickups
Sometimes, an address alone doesn’t do the trick. If you live in an apartment complex or have specific entry instructions, we can pass those custom directions along to your driver to avoid confusion.
If you use a walker, wheelchair, or any assistive device, just let us know in advance—we’ll share that information with the driver to help ensure a smoother experience.
Curb-to-Curb Ride Support
The Uber drivers we work with provide curb-to-curb service only. That means they will meet you at the curb, but do not provide hands-on assistance getting in or out of the vehicle.
Our technology and live support team work together to set clear expectations with drivers ahead of time. However, because Uber drivers are not professionally trained caregivers, Ageless Care Solutions’ ride services should not be used by individuals who require physical help to enter or exit a vehicle.
